Featherstone Academy
The brief
Rodillian Academy Trust required new dining room furniture for one of their schools, Featherstone Academy in Wakefield. The brief was to provide a quote for the supply, installation and packaging removal/recycling of new dining room benches and tables that are suitable for secondary students with open ends to monitor litter and for easier cleaning; each table required 2 benches with an overall seating capacity of 192. As part of the dining room refurbishment, we removed the existing furniture and recycled it where appropriate.
Our solution
At the YPO, we have an extensive range of suppliers on our furniture contracts. For this project, we compared prices and specifications of similar products from a few suppliers, offering the customer the best value while meeting the brief. We matched the school's dimension requests and offered them a large array of colour finishes to consider.
The process
Once the orders were placed, we agreed on a phased removal and installation programme that worked for the school. We completed the refresh over two days, and we started after 1pm, so the school's lunchtime was not interrupted. We removed half of the old benches and tables and replaced them with new furniture each day. The furniture was transported using reusable furniture blankets to package and protect the furniture for transportation.
The vehicles we use for this part of the process are the most fuel-efficient Euro 6 compliant vehicles to deliver and consolidate runs where we can to reduce millage and emissions emitted. The old furniture removed from the site is broken down and segregated into different material types ready for recycling.

The outcome
The installation was completed in time, and the final look is contemporary and in line with the school branding.
