YPO operates under the aegis of the Local Authority (Goods and Services) Act 1970. As the largest formally constituted local authority purchasing consortium in the UK, YPO is governed by a management committee of elected representatives (councillors) from its member authorities.
YPO is responsible for ensuring that its business is conducted in accordance with the law and proper standards, that public money is safeguarded and properly accounted for, and that these funds are used economically, efficiently and effectively. YPO is also responsible for putting in place proper arrangements for the governance of its affairs, facilitating the effective exercise of the organisation’s functions which include arrangements for the management of risk.
In order to demonstrate good corporate governance, YPO has approved and adopted a Code of Corporate Governance.
