In 2022, we launched our Climate Change Strategy and action plan detailing our road map to net zero in support of the UK’s commitment to reach net zero by 2050. To further demonstrate our commitment, in 2023 we signed the Yorkshire and Humber’s Climate Action Pledge to join the movement for a greener, more secure and prosperous Yorkshire and Humber. Over the last two years, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 30% in line with strategic business decisions around the operation of food procurement and sustainable enhancements. As we continue to embed our climate change strategy into business operations and further enhance our carbon reporting, we are taking proactive steps to meet our net zero targets.

• Reduced the number of pages printed in its catalogues since 2022
• Taken part in Battery Electric Truck Trial (BETT) for 18 months

We will aim to -
• Review current items used and sold throughout canteen and kitchenettes
• Consider packaging alternatives and eligibility for reusable food packaging trial

Achieved so far -
• Removed plastic cutlery and replaced some plastic packaging with single use carboard and paper alternatives
• Provided all staff with a YPO reusable cup

We will aim to -
• Review products currently included in the YPO brand range
• Review plastic content associated with YPO brand products for a year-on-year reduction

Achieved so far -
• 560kg of plastic saved by removing plastic packing from bestselling sticky notes
• YPO glue sticks now 100% recycled and made from 80% recycled materials
• Set criteria that a product must meet to be included in YPOs eco-friendly range

Our first sustainable event - Supplier Conference

What a day! We welcomed over 100 attendees to our supplier conference, in what was our first ever sustainable event.

Household food waste collections to be introduced

Local Authorities are to introduce weekly food waste collections to all households in England by 31 March 2026.
