Managed washroom services have been a feature of UK business for many years in the UK now and most organisations have some form of contracted agreement with a hygiene provider to attend site on a regular basis, service products and remove waste for disposal. Leading UK providers have fleets of vehicles and numerous waste transfer centres that have an impact on the environment – and on the customers they service. This last 18 months has made Citron Hygiene take a long hard look at our business to see how we can reduce the impact on the environment whilst ensuring customers premises are managed in a safe way. Here we outline what we have done and how we are committing to ensuring we have the right approach.
Earlier in the year, we asked our customers what was important to them and this research informed our business decisions, leading to the changes we are now implementing. Some of the YPO framework customers would have taken part in this research which covered key subjects such as safety of premises, the requirement for sanitisers going forward and how washrooms will become more important going forward.
Reduced time on your premises
As we return to a post-COVID-19 way of life, what we have learned is that we need to all ensure our places of work remain safe. The less time external contractors need to spend on your premises will ultimately ensure a safer space to work. Ultimately though, we will ensure your products on-site are always fully stocked and working perfectly. We promise to support our customers in Building Healthy Spaces and safer environments for all in support of the workplaces of the future.
Less waste. Fewer miles travelled
With thousands of serviced products and refills looked after by a national fleet of technicians and vehicles, our environmental impact is significant due to the number of miles our vehicles travel. It is clear from our tests that some of your hygiene products would benefit from fewer exchanges. Our studies, and the research feedback clearly identify that a significant percentage of product is left in the refills we dispose of. So, where we can, we will be updating to a 6-weekly schedule on these services. This will greatly reduce the amount of wasted material in refills, thereby supporting our carbon reduction.
The same dedication to protecting you and your people
More protection
Our feminine hygiene journey has developed from bin exchange to liner service and from biocidal granules to a revolutionary germicidal E-Card protection, containing a unique vapor action germicide rendering all waste in the unit safe for over 6 weeks and is proven to be 99.9% effective against all enveloped viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). This means we have reduced plastic usage by 28%, unit cleaning water usage by 96% and overall carbon footprint by an estimated 18%. So, we are able to deliver maximum hygienic standards with reduced environmental impact.
A switch to Liner Only Service
Part of our drive to be more responsible to the environment, we have embarked on a major national initiative to transform the outdated unit exchange service to a more modern, environmentally friendly liner exchange service. A liner only service means that when technicians are servicing a personal hygiene unit or a nappy bin, the bin is not replaced with a different unit. The unit remains on site but is safely and efficiently sanitised to the same standards as they would be if they were taken off-site, to look fresh and clean before inputting a fresh bin liner into the unit ready for use. This means fewer miles travelled, no unit washing and no transporting empty units back to site.
