Halloween is the perfect time for some fun crafts with a spooky twist! Decorate your classroom with creepily carved pumpkins and ghostly tealight holders with these simple Halloween themed air drying clay crafts.
Ghostly Tea Light Holder:
Spark that flicker of excitement for the Halloween season with this ghost tea light holder craft. A glittering ghost is the perfect way to add some sparkle to your spooky decorations!

What you need:
Crayola Model Magic Clay - White (307082)
Modelling Board - A4 (74526X)
Glitter & Glitter tub (749265)
Children’s rolling pin (716654)
Paper plate (307123)
Clay modelling tools (744646)
LED tealight - pack of 12 (304585)
Scrap paper or tissue
How to make:
- Set up each modelling board with a portion of white air drying clay.
- Use your hand (or rolling pin) to flatten out the clay.
- Pour a generous amount a glitter into the centre of the clay and fold inwards, being careful to keep the glitter inside the clay.
- Knead the clay until it is sparkles throughout, adding more glitter if necessary.
- Roll the clay out evenly until it is large enough to fit the paper plate on.
- Cut around the paper plate with the modelling tools.
- Scrunch some scrap paper into a ball and balance it on top of your glitter tub (make sure the lid is on!)
- Carefully place the clay on top so it falls naturally and evenly on all sides.
- Make some folds in the clay to create your ghost shape.
- Use the modelling tools to carve out two eye holes.
- Leave to dry for 24 – 36 hours.
- Once dry, add an LED tealight under your ghost to create the perfect spooky Halloween decoration!
Pumpkin Carving:
Carve yourself a Halloween pumpkin using air drying clay! This simple, low-mess pumpkin craft is the perfect Halloween activity for little learners.

What you need:
Crayola Model Magic Clay - Blue, Yellow, Red (307082)
Clay modelling tools (744646)
Modelling Board - A4 (74526X)
String (718300)
Scissors (313327)
How to make:
- Set up each modelling board with some blue, yellow, and red air drying clay.
- Cut out a medium portion of red and yellow clay, ready for combining. Let little learners experiment with how much of each colour to use when creating their perfect orange pumpkin.
- Knead, squish, mix, fold, and roll the red and yellow clay together until it becomes a consistent orange colour.
- Roll the orange clay into a ball, flattening it slightly.
- Place the orange clay on top of a long piece of string.
- Pull the string tight around the top of the clay to create indents.
- Turn the clay slightly and repeat several times, to create a pumpkin shape.
- In the same way as before, cut out a small portion of blue and yellow clay and combine to make green.
- Press into a leaf shape.
- Combine a small portion of red, yellow, and blue clay to make brown.
- Roll the brown clay into a short stem.
- Add the leaf and stem to the top of the pumpkin.
- Carve a spooky expression onto the face of the pumpkin to finalise your design!
