I joined YPO in October 2021 as a Digital Marketing Apprentice and am now qualified in L3 Digital Marketing thanks to the support from my colleagues at YPO and the on-the-job training I received. This blog covers the basics of apprenticeships and what to expect from an apprenticeship at YPO! Please note, that I am answering these questions based on my personal experience, some answers may vary depending on the type of apprenticeship taken.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a mix of on-the-job training and study time towards your qualification. For example, I completed my day to day roll in the marketing team 4 days a week and had 1 day a week to focus on my learning and study towards my Level 3 qualification.
Who can apply for an apprenticeship?
To apply for an apprenticeship you need to be:
- 16 years old or over
- Living in the UK
- Not in full-time education
Please note that you are never too old to apply for an apprenticeship! If you want to gain new skills or start a new career path you are always welcome to apply for apprenticeships.
What are the different levels of apprenticeships?
There are four main levels of apprenticeships in the UK which are:
- Level 2 qualifications (equivalent to GCSE)
- Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A-Levels)
- Level 4/5 qualifications (can be completed after gaining a Level 3 qualification)
- Level 6 or above (equivalent to a university degree)
How long is an apprenticeship?
At YPO at typical apprenticeship contract lasts 2 years, however in many roles you will more than likely be qualified around the 18 months mark.
How do you apply for an apprenticeship?
Each companies recruitment process may vary, however at YPO to apply for an apprenticeship you need to fill out an application form. In the application form you will be asked to include your education and current qualification details, your work experience and employment history, a personal statement and any supporting information that you feel would be helpful relating to the role that you are applying for.
What apprenticeships are offered at YPO?
YPO offers a wide range of apprenticeships in many different departments such as:
- Business Administration apprenticeships
- IT apprenticeships
- Finance apprenticeships
- Marketing apprenticeships
- Customer Service apprenticeships
- Warehouse Operative apprenticeships and more!

The people! The colleagues I work with every day and throughout the business are so helpful and supportive and really want the best for you and your development. You will always have enough time to focus on your learning each week and will have plenty of support to assist you in gaining your qualification.
What happens after an apprenticeship?
Once your contract is coming to an end and you have your qualification you are ready to apply for jobs! You can either apply for roles at YPO if available or external - around 50% of apprentice’s secure full time employment at YPO after completing their apprenticeship.
