A day in the life of an apprentice at YPO

When people think about apprenticeships, they often imagine spending every day studying or doing the same tasks over and over again. But as a Multi-channel Marketing Apprentice at YPO, no two days are ever the same.

At 17 years old, I decided that an apprenticeship was the right route for me instead of going to university. I wanted to gain real working experience, develop practical skills and earn while learning. Choosing an apprenticeship has allowed me to begin my career in marketing straight away while working towards a qualification at the same time.

One of my favourite things about my role is how varied it is. Some days I’m working from home, while other days I’m in the office collaborating with different teams across the business. My responsibilities include creating content for social media, assisting with photoshoots, completing office admin tasks and working with influencers for upcoming campaigns and projects.

A typical day could start with checking emails and planning social media content, before moving onto supporting marketing campaigns or helping prepare creative materials. Other days can involve attending meetings, working on upcoming events or helping organise photography and video content for products and promotions.

One of the highlights of my apprenticeship so far has been travelling to London to support the Child Expo event. It was a great opportunity to meet customers in person, showcase YPO products and see first-hand how events help build relationships and connections. I found it so exciting to experience such a large industry event and be involved in representing the organisation.

The event even gave me the chance to meet children’s author Michael Rosen, which was a memorable moment and something I never expected to experience as part of an apprenticeship.

Another great part of being an apprentice is learning from the people around you. Working alongside experienced colleagues has helped me build confidence, improve my communication skills and develop a better understanding of the marketing industry.

My experience so far has shown me that apprenticeships can open the door to exciting opportunities, valuable experience and a real insight into working life.
