Brownlee and YPO host Bradford event

The Brownlee Foundation teamed up with YPO this week to host an inspiring triathlon event attended by more than a thousand children from across Bradford.a

They took part in the mini triathlon-style event, which allows young participants to swim, cycle and run in a fun, non-competitive environment.

Schools from across the Bradford area attended the free event at Bradford Grammar School, which aims to inspire children to enjoy taking part in sport and physical activity.

Jonny Brownlee - Olympic medallist, Foundation founder and former pupil at Bradford Grammar School - was there to support the event, cheering children across the finish line.
YPO staff volunteers and Bradford Grammar sixth formers were also on hand, easily recognised in YPO’s signature purple T-shirts, helping the aspiring young athletes along the way.

The Wakefield-based public sector buying organisation provided sustainable goodie bags, designed to be reused as PE kit bags. In total, YPO donated 17,000 bags to be distributed across 17 events nationwide.

This marks the third year that YPO and the Brownlee Foundation have worked together. Last year, the two organisations held a flagship event at Silcoates School in Wakefield.
Founded by Team GB Olympic triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, the Brownlee Foundation aims to inspire primary schoolchildren across the UK to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

The Yorkshire brothers are multiple-time Olympic medallists who captured the public’s attention during the famous moment at the 2016 Olympics in Mexico, when Alistair helped his exhausted brother Jonny over the finish line.

These free events give children the opportunity to enjoy being active in a fun, non-competitive and inclusive environment, promoting the enjoyment of sport among pupils of all backgrounds and abilities.

Together, YPO and the Brownlee Foundation continue to create opportunities for young people to get active, build confidence and enjoy sport in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Foundation founder and Olympic medallist Jonny Brownlee added: “It was great to see so many children having fun, especially as the weather conditions weren’t the best! The support from YPO is essential to help us continue providing these opportunities around the country, hoping each child enjoys their experience and is inspired to do more activities”.
