What is 3D CAD modelling?
3D CAD modelling is a broad term used to describe any imagery or drawing work on a project that shows views in the third dimension. This is different to 2D planning as 2D planning only shows a space in the flat plane, usually this is in the form of a plan which shows a birds eye view of the space or a section showing a flat view through a space. 3D modelling differs from this as it shows us multiple angles and views of the same space.
Some examples of 3D modelling outputs are:
- Isometric
- Views
- Perspectives
- Renders
- Panoramas
- Walk-throughs
- Videos
We can create these visuals using 3D CAD modelling software with varying levels of detail. Each of the outputs above have different uses and combined create a full 3D CAD modelling package.
Why do designers use 3D CAD modelling?
As designers, we use 3D CAD modelling to give us a better insight into the details of a space. The main benefit of this, especially when designing spaces such as classrooms, offices and libraries etc., is that we can see whether a space is being used to its best and we can give a customer a realistic interpretation of how their finished space will look. It can be difficult for our customers who are not used to reading technical drawings to visualise a 2D plan as their space, however 3D modelling can take them inside that space and reflect the final project. This means we can make sure that our customers fully understand their design.
When designing we can utilise the simpler functions of 3D modelling to try out ideas within a space and demonstrate whether they will work or not. At YPO we offer unlimited revisions to our customers to make sure that we get the final result they want.
By using 3D CAD modelling we can help our customers to make important decision about their new furniture; we are able to show how the choice of fabric, finish or colour can transform their space, how they can utilise wall art or greenery to add interest and texture or what a space could look like by altering room features and incorporating new furniture styles and trends.
The aim when using 3D modelling is not to make 2D planning or technical drawing redundant as these are still essential tools but to combine the functions of different drawing techniques to create the best suite of work for our customers.
Why do customers benefit from 3D CAD modelling?
At YPO our customers are the main focus of our business and this is no different when speaking about our 3D CAD offering. We have the skills to create a full 3D CAD modelling package which is hugely beneficial for our customers. By being able to interact with 3D modelling within a project, we allow customers to be as involved with their space designs as they want to be. We can provide them with the tools to understand and showcase their new spaces which would not be possible using only 2D planning. We work with our customers closely and allow them to direct the design process whilst advising on best practise and suitable solutions.
Our customers benefit from a personalised drawing package which we create and adapt with their needs in mind, with 3D CAD modelling we can alter this quickly and easily when required.
What do YPO offer in our 3D CAD modelling package?
We are experts in design at YPO and we love to share our expertise with our customers. We are always happy to help with ideas for your spaces and talk through any plans you have. We offer a full 3D CAD modelling package which means we can provide as much or as little as our customers need and design a package of drawing work that will best suit them. As we have the ability to create fully rendered panoramic imagery we can offer the customer the chance to effectively step into their space and experience the design, giving them the chance to reflect and alter the design if needed. We can offer full technical drawings to help contractors and complement other trades. We can provide still imagery and photo-realistic rendering for promotional materials and inspiration from past projects to get you started.
