Fear not, as the YPO team have created a back to school checklist which you can browse at your leisure and tick off activities you may have already completed or add any additional tasks we mention to your to do list.
Prepare your classroom
-
Create your dazzling displays. Preparing and putting up your displays for the new term is exciting for your class as it gives them a sneak peek at what topics you’ll be working on this year! Displays are also a brilliant visual learning aid that you can refer to during your lessons. Make sure to leave a couple of display boards blank so that you can proudly display your pupil's work!
-
Prepare your seating chart. We suggest a PowerPoint slide to show on your smartboard if your class are old enough to find their own seats.
-
Restock and organise any ery or needed supplies for the upcoming term. Make sure that your stocked up on the basics such as , pencils, paper and organise any extra needed supplies for special projects/topics that are upcoming. Here at YPO we have everything you need and more!
-
Include clearly labelled storage options in your classroom to encourage your pupils to tidy away their resources independently.
Prepare some first week activities
-
Create a ‘Get to Know Me’ activity for your class to complete. You could include questions for them to fill out about their favourite hobbies, family, pets and much more. This will start engaging conversations and helps you to get to know your class better as well as pupils who may just be meeting for the first time.
-
Let your pupils get creative and make their own name tag. Dig out the arts and crafts supplies and let your classes imagination run wild. You could encourage your pupils to draw their favourite thing(s) on their name tag as well as writing out the most important detail – their name!
-
Start a discussion around what your class are most excited for in the upcoming term/year. This is a great way to decipher what topics your pupils are most interested in, and you can in turn talk more in detail about what’s coming up and the type of activities your class can look forward to.
Prepare yourself
-
Check and learn any needs that your pupils may have. Does anyone in your class this year have allergies or additional learning needs? Double check before the start of term so that you are prepared and can support all of your pupils with whatever they may need.
-
Why not treat yourself to a new water bottle? Staying hydrated is very important and having a reusable bottle around that you can top up throughout the day is ideal for back to school.
-
Don’t forget to help out your fellow teachers and ask for assistance if you need it too.
-
Get a good nights sleep before your first day back, turn up with a smile and have the best day ever with your new class!
