Name: Cheryl Gahan
Position: HR Services – Further Competition Co-ordinator
How long have you been working at YPO: Since September 2015
What do you like most about working at YPO?
I have always worked in roles where people have been at the forefront of my job, whether that was working for the prison service, running performing arts and craft classes for primary school children, or here at YPO. In all these VERY varied roles, I have always been driven to provide the customer with the best possible experience. I joined YPO in 2015 and I knew then that this was an organisation that thrived and was renowned for taking care of its customers.
Another draw to the company was that the organisation provides you with plenty of progression opportunities. I feel YPO is like one big family who also has my wellbeing and my own family in mind - the work life balance for me is fantastic.
What are your main responsibilities?
My main responsibilities are to conduct all HR services further competitions through our online portal and to keep the very busy Apprenticeship framework ticking over. I also assist the team with full administrative support, providing regular assistance and support to our customers and providers. Maintaining a close relationship with our customers and providers will help ensure we keep improving our framework offering, and provide the best service possible as a team.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Learning a brand new job role from home, and joining a new team virtually was initially quite daunting – especially in such a fast paced procurement services department! However, it’s been fab learning new skills again, gaining more and more knowledge every day, from a mind blowingly talented and supportive team.
Describe your role in three words:
Rewarding, interesting, always evolving (That's two words!)
How did you get involved in procurement?
I joined YPO with the customer development team in 2015. I loved my time in this role and it was a great opportunity to develop my skills. However, it was time for a new challenge, and to progress to the next step in my career.
I haven’t had any previous experience in procurement, but I have always given my all to any job role and genuinely love building close relationships with customers and suppliers. The procurement services team offered this, whilst also giving me the opportunity to learn and progress.
I only joined the team in January 2021, so I still have so much to learn, but I also feel I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the short time I have been on the team.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My spare time is generally taken up by looking after my little girl, but when I am free from playing barbies or roblox I love to draw, paint, decorate, up-cycle, garden or do anything creative, with a glass of gin in hand!
