Name: Robyn Lamport-Rann
Position: Category Buyer - ICT
How long have you been working for YPO? Six years
What do you like the most about YPO?
YPO is a great organisation who believes and lives by its values, which I love. It’s great to be part of a company who not only cares about the best interests of our customer by offering best value and creating savings, but also about their staff, providing many opportunities for development and progression.
What are your main responsibilities?
I work closely alongside the other members of the IT services team to develop and manage a catalogue of frameworks covering areas such as technology hardware, software and service solutions. One of my main roles is to help customers by offering advice and compliant market routes for them to use, to help make their procurement a smooth and easy process. I also enjoy building relationships with our suppliers to ensure we are in touch with the latest innovations and don't miss out on any new opportunities.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
2019 is an exciting year for the IT team, with several, brand new YPO frameworks in motion as we speak. The most challenging part is trying to keep up to date with ever changing technology and ensuring we have the latest offerings and solutions available for our customers.
Describe your role in three words
Enjoyable, rewarding, dynamic
How did you get involved in procurement?
I started out here in the customer service team which gave me great insight into customer needs and requirements and soon realised my enjoyment in solving problems.
When the opportunity came up as an analyst within supply chain, I decided to change departments to gain experience from a different aspect of the business. This role involved working closely alongside suppliers and the buying team, which gave me inspiration and an eye opener into the world of procurement.
Tell us a bit about your procurement experience
After a year as an Inventory Analyst I was ready for a new challenge, which appeared in the form of Assistant Buyer within trading. In those three years, I have been lucky to work across a multitude of product areas, frameworks and supply base, helping to procure AV, IT and business machines then moving across to curriculum, spanning maths, science and computing.
Working with knowledgeable and enthusiastic category buyers has helped to develop my own procurement skills, which alongside studying CIPS has given me the confidence and ability to progress to my new position.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I always have the travel bug, so you can usually find me seeking out my next adventure, or failing that I have a creative flair so I may be in my craft room creating my next project!
