My journey to YPO
Prior to commencing my professional career, I embarked upon undergraduate studies in Law with Criminology and graduated from the University of Liverpool with a first class honours degree. I initially gained some experience in a legal setting before my journey into the world of procurement commenced in 2019 after I accepted a role within the procurement team at City of York Council.
This was a great place to start learning about public sector procurement as it gave me first-hand experience of the challenges facing the public sector, such as budgetary and social value issues, while also providing hands on experience in compliance and operating within the bounds of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. My studies have also helped me immensely during the early stages of my career, as it can be tricky to navigate rules and regulations at the best of times! I’m looking forward to continuing to draw on that experience in my new role and as procurement regulations develop following our withdrawal from the European Union.
My procurement experience
During my time at City of York Council I worked across several categories, with a focus on professional services, ICT and fleet which has given me a wide insight into the needs of local authorities. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to work with so many different client teams and to work on a variety of procurements which had hugely different aims, for example you must think very differently when preparing a tender process for a piece of consultancy work in comparison to the purchase of a forklift truck!
Nonetheless, working on such a variety of projects has given me a well-rounded understanding of procurement and I’m looking forward to seeing how working within the HR services category here at YPO impacts and improves upon the skills gained whilst working at City of York Council.
My role at YPO
I have joined the HR services team and will be focussing on recruitment, including managing our existing frameworks and establishing some new and exciting frameworks, which are already on my radar. I’m already confident that my time at YPO is going to be great, both my immediate team and the wider procurement team have been so welcoming and it’s clear everyone is driven by the same passion.
I’m looking forward to having a more specific focus on HR services and developing future frameworks that deliver what is needed by our customers. It’s exciting to be learning about a new sector and to be building new relationships with both customers and suppliers, working together to achieve some real savings across the public sector.
A bit about me…
In my spare time I enjoy countryside walks with my partner and our crazy springer spaniel, as well as jetting off on city breaks, when we’re allowed to of course!
