Read below to find out how to recreate our three easy Christmas drawing activities for the classroom!
Make your own wrapping paper
Get creative this festive season by designing your own wrapping paper! This is an easy activity for any classroom, and is the perfect way to personalise a present for a loved one.
All you need is some plain wrapping paper – plain brown paper works best, and is also recyclable! Grab your STABILO woody pencils, and get drawing your favourite festive designs, such as snowflakes, Christmas trees, baubles, presents, snowmen and more.
Top tips! Apply a little water and STABILO woody turns into a watercolour pencil, or use it with a brush for more detailed painting effects.Heat the tip with a hairdryer and the woody pencil transforms to an oily texture for rich painting and blending. If it’s subtle colour transition and shade variations you want, simply smear different colours together with your fingers.
Create a magical window display
Have some fun with your windows! We used woody to create a nativity scene on our office windows at Christmas time, but you can use it to create all kinds of designs on your windows and mirrors any time of the year, safe in the knowledge that your creations will simply wipe off with a damp cloth. We drew a snowman in the image below, but you could try any festive design, such as a Christmas tree, presents, baubles or a starry night.
The waxy texture when you apply pressure gives great results on any smooth or shiny surface and it adheres to porous textures such as wood and stone. You can even use woody for brilliant effects on delicate surfaces like eggshells and china, perfect for using on plain Christmas ornaments to create your own design!
Top tip! Try layering colours on top of one another with light colours first and a final dark colour and then scratch or scrape through the layers to reveal extra dimension to your artwork.
Draw a night-time Christmas scene
An easy Christmas activity to try is drawing a night-time Christmas scene. All you need is black drawing paper, and STABILO woody pencils. Have a think about what kind of festive scene you’d like to create! We created a Bonfire Night scene below, using different colours for each firework. For a more festive scene, you could try drawing a nativity scene, or a Christmas tree covered in colourful lights.
Add shimmer by using woody pencils in metallic silver and gold, which are especially impactful on dark surfaces, perfect for your night-time Christmas scene. This activity also works well for creating Christmas cards, by using black card folded in half, and drawing a design on the front. We created a snowman scene below on black paper.
