The increase in wildfires in the UK
This year already, there have been many grass fires throughout the kingdom. Last month, fires started in Cannich in the Scottish Highlands. They were ravaged by wildfire, and officials estimate it to be the largest area in the UK on record affected.
With changing weather and environmental factors, we see more specialist forces deploying new techniques and using specialist equipment.
How do wildfires start?
There are many ways a wildfire can start. Three things are needed to start a fire: fuel, oxygen, and heat. Drought condition can peak when it is a hot day, and all is needed is a little spark for a fire to start. This can also happen naturally ignited by heat or even a lightning strike. Wildfires can also happen through human causes from things like dropping cigarettes lit, campfires or fireworks.

How can wildfires spread?
Wild fires spread from the wind, being on a slope or by the fuel trail. Being on a slope can increase the speed in of the fire with a slop going upwards 20% it would quadruple the speed of the fire. Fuel includes trees, dry grass and much more, the more fuel, the easier the spread.
