- Lot 1 - Childcare Law - concerns cases where Social Services and Local Authorities become involved with families in childcare proceedings, emergency protection and special guardianship order applications or adoption applications. The law in this field is very specialised and constantly changing. We have specialists appointed who are members of industry bodies such as the Law Society's Child Care Panel, enabling authorities to meet their obligations in the safeguarding of children and the promotion of their wellbeing.
- Lot 2 – Adult Social Services and Community Care Law - concerns the duty and power of local authorities to provide care to persons within their respective area, including help with care at home, respite care, adaptations to a property to help someone remain in their own home, decisions about what care is to be provided and the right care environment. The legislative environment around adult social care is a patchwork of statutes, and Community Care Law is often used to challenge decisions made by public bodies including the NHS and social services.
- Lot 3 – General Litigation - is resolving a legal dispute between two or more parties (individuals or business entities) who seek compensation for damages incurred or specific performances that were not delivered. This can include disputes between landlords and tenants; environmental law; intellectual property disputes; construction; medical malpractice; employment and labour issues; workers’ compensation, and education law.
- Lot 4 - General Conveyancing / Routine Property - Conveyancing is the process of transferring land from a seller to a buyer, and routine property law encompasses landlords’ responsibilities in terms of inspections, maintenance and repairs. Lot 4 of YPO’s legal services framework gives authorities access to leading legal firms who can advise, assist and represent on all general conveyancing and routine property matters, including (but not limited to) acquisitions and disposals, social housing, property leasing and litigation as well as the Right to Buy.
- Lot 5 - General contracts, Commercial and IT - covers a broad range of general legal services, including commercial and IT. Services include, but are not limited to, commercial contract claims, competition law, construction law, consumer law, domestic and EU public procurement, IT contracts, IP rights, taxation and any other associated litigation.
- Lot 6 – Planning, Compulsory Purchase, Highways and Environmental - Planning policies govern the way development is planned for, managed and controlled. Planning law is made up of a broad range of primary and secondary legislation. YPO’s legal services framework gives authorities access to legal professionals who can advise and represent on the full range of planning legislation, including around the Building Act 1984, compulsory purchase, general planning and highway law, environmental impact assessments, along with many other associated topics.
- Lot 7 – Major or Complex Projects - private finance initiatives (PFIs) and public-private partnerships (PPPs) typically include major government infrastructure projects such as highways, public transport, airports, bridges and tunnels. PFIs have delivered around £56 billion of private sector capital investment in over 700 UK infrastructure projects, whilst PPPs also cover a wide range of infrastructure projects ranging from £1bn+ investments in hospitals to much smaller construction projects.
- Lot 8 – Local Governance Law and Corporate Governance - advice on all aspects of local governance law, including (amongst others) GDPR and FOI, immigration, corporate, finance and corporate governance law.
- Lot 9 – Employment Law and Pensions - Employment law is extremely dynamic, jurisdiction specific and subject to frequent legislative and case law developments, with employers often at the forefront of these developments. It constitutes contract law and statutory rights, with additional obligations on the public sector such as the public sector equality duty.
- Lot 10 – Public Health - The Health and Social Care Act 2012 sets out the main statutory duties for public health that were conferred on local authorities, including improving the health of their local population and for public health services.
- Lot 11, 12 & 13 – Training - The Government has done a great job in providing training for the upcoming Act, but procurement professionals should be equipped with knowledge from legal professionals and guided on how to successfully interpret and apply the new regime.
