Young children should be given frequent opportunities to use all their senses when exploring their environment. Activities that incorporate rich sensory experiences are brilliant for learning a whole range of concepts and supporting cognitive and language development. The outdoors will provide your little learners with the perfect environment for child-led messy play.

Outdoor messy play doesn't need to be overly complicated or expensive either. Simply providing sticks and encouraging them to make marks in mud or sand is an easy activity that will engage them for hours, or you could investigate the principals of cause and effect by making our magical messy sand, super squidgy slime or homemade bouncy balls (see how by clicking on the images below)
