The WSM stacking stool is a contemporary and intelligently designed seating solution that ensures optimal posture and comfort whilst working in a practical environment. The tall design is perfect for music rooms, science labs, or art classrooms, and by offering a middle ground between the full lumbar support of a high chair and the simplicity of a traditional MDF stool, students of either preference will feel equipped to reach their full potential.

Design
Each stool has a 610mm seat height, making them ideal for Key Stage 3, and are specifically designed for music, IT science, arts, crafts and design and technology classrooms where high seating is the norm. As such subjects can invite hours of seated work, stools help offer a flexible seating position and leg extension that helps students focus on their work rather than discomfort, and makes it easier to get up and down without causing disruption. When using a table with a height of 850mm, these stools will provide optimal comfort and posture to prevent students from straining or hunching over whilst they work, and ensure compliance with BS EN 1729:2016.

All aspects of this stool’s design are centered around maximising comfort and posture to enable longer periods of productivity. One of these aspects is the curved waterfall front, which positions the legs to improve circulation when working for a long time. Another is the foot rest, which again supports circulation, puts less pressure on the spine and reduces fatigue of the hip flexors. The main benefit however is the addition of a minimal lumbar support at the rear of the chair. Although useful for determining the chair’s orientation and optimising space by fitting neatly under tables and stacking in sets of 6, its main benefit is once again posture and comfort.

Without a full shell at the rear, the restrictions of a high chair are eliminated whilst the benefits are retained. This design gives students greater freedom of movement and freedom in how they can position themselves, andconsidering students engrossed in practical work are unlikely to even use a full lumbar support, the minimal design is more than adequate for its purpose. Being unable to fully lean back also increases productivity, as well as safety through the prevention of weight imbalance that causes accidents.

A skid base is incorporated into the stool’s design for a unique and attractive look that protects both the user and the floor. Use it in high wear situations, spaces where new or specialist flooring needs to be protected, or with young children and the accident-prone for maximum effectiveness. A 4-legged version is alternatively available for those who don’t require these benefits.

Construction
Each WSM stool is constructed from polypropylene - an easy-cleaning, hard-wearing material that can withstand frequent use and heavy weight. In practical environments where damage is likely, polypropylene provides unmatched protection and retains its look for longer, resisting spillages, scratching, denting and graffiti better than MDF alternatives.

The frame also provides durability with its robust crushed bent steel construction, which is encased in the polypropylene shell at the point of attachment. This ensures a sturdy, tamperproof build that will not loosen even with heavy daily use, movement or stacking.

By incorporating a skid base, the stool will not tilt, making the chair much safer when in use or stacked. It will also protect the floor against scratches and dents in this way, reducing both standard wear and tear and damage caused from impact if a stool should fall. This works by maximising the surface area and widening the bottom of the frame for wider weight distribution.
