The Startaboard colour coded keyboard is a non-intimidating introduction to typing to make it less intimidating and easier for young children to learn. The keys are split up into types such as numbers and vowels to make it easier to identify them, and are 1 inch and square in size for easier use.

The keys are broken up as follows:
• Red - Numbers
• Green - Consonants
• Purple - Vowels
• Yellow - Punctuation
• Blue - Everything else

Such colour coding avoids the confusion brought on by a standard keyboard, helping children get used to the layout and learn to type quickly. It will also help children remember the vowels, having a cross-subject benefit.

The keys are all labelled in upper case with comic sans font, making it easy to read for children of all abilities. ‘Enter’ and ‘Space’ are also labelled unlike a regular keyboard, although the QWERTY layout remains the same so the typing skills learned can be transferred.
