Modelling clay is a wonderful medium that gets children to think outside the box and forces them to reconsider everything they think they know about art. With air drying Scolaclay, children can experience the joy of clay anywhere without the need for a kiln to finish their masterpieces!

How to Use Clay
Scolaclay can be moulded, shaped and stretched to resemble anything you like, whether that is your favourite animal, a friend, or a decorative item to take home to your loved ones. This can be achieved by hand, as well as with modelling tools or textured plates to achieve the preferred design, texture or pattern with high accuracy.

Once dry, the insoluble clay can be decorated with almost any type of paint, and coated with PVA for a glossy, professional finish that looks particularly fantastic on ornaments. For best results, clay should be dried slowly to prevent cracking and decrease fragility.

Unhappy with the final piece? Not a problem – just cover with a damp cloth overnight to reconstitute the clay for further improvement!

Beneficial for Children

Not only are kilns an expensive, specialist piece of equipment, but they are unsafe for children and can present a fire hazard, and can even damage your clay though burning and cracking if not precisely timed. This would devastate young children especially and could even dissuade them from ever sculpting again, so air drying clay is always highly recommended for beginners and casual use – even where is a kiln is available.
