YPO, one of the UK’s largest public sector buying organisations, has launched a new innovative tech solution which will improve the safety and security of secondary school pupils when using transport provided by school. The Home to School app connects buses with real-time tracking for schools and parents/guardians to monitor pupils’ journeys, offering peace of mind and improving safeguarding.
Featuring alerts and messages; the app keeps parents/guardians and schools directly informed and notified of delays, route changes and absences. Communication is through a mobile subscription service for transport providers and a free app for parents/guardians, available on iOS and Android, thus offering real-time information and reducing the requirement for calls and emails from school to parents/guardians and vice versa.
Home to School can be integrated into school systems such as Capita SIMS, providing improved administration and record keeping. The app will store boarding activity and offer advice on fuel efficiencies by utilising data regarding journey time and distance.
The Home to School app was developed by award-winning transport consultancy Vectare using the latest technological advancements. Fully secure, all pupil data is encrypted, and its storage is fully compliant with GDPR regulations.
The app also features voice recognition for drivers, to allow messages to be sent to parents/guardians without the need to handle a device. It integrates near field communication (NFC) stickers, mobile devices/tablets and the latest software to help provide parents/guardians with the necessary safeguarding information required whilst their children are on school transport.
Martin Armytage, Head of Education at YPO, said: “We are first to market with our digital transportation app and delighted to work with Vectare to make this technology available to secondary schools across the UK. Schools, under pressure to both ensure pupil safety and provide an efficient transport system, have been desperate for a solution like this and we’re delighted to meet their needs.
“Using geolocation in this way is set to revolutionise the communication around children getting to and from school, providing peace of mind for parents/guardians and schools alike.”
