Jane has recently joined YPO from Wakefield Council as the new Category Buyer for Energy in the procurement services team.
Name: Jane Harrod
Position: Category Buyer – Energy Services
How long have you been working at YPO: Since April 2021
What do you like most about working at YPO?
YPO is a great organisation to work for who wants best value for the customer and cares about their staff. Everyone has been so friendly, welcoming and positive. I already feel that my time at YPO is going to be rewarding and I am looking forward to learning and developing my procurement career here.
What are your main responsibilities?
My main responsibility is engaging with suppliers and customers in the energy market to look at new solutions for energy requirements. I manage several energy frameworks and tendering new ones to support the customer with an easy accessible route to market. Building stakeholder relationships is essential so we can be reactive to customer requirements, as well as their day to day requests.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Starting a new job working from home whilst learning a new category in a new organisation.
Describe your role in three words: Interesting, Enjoyable, Exciting
How did you get involved in procurement?
During my 17 years working at Barnsley Council I got redeployed from a contract monitoring team into a procurement officer role and my procurement journey began. I was lucky to complete my MCIPS qualification whilst working at Barnsley Council. At Barnsley Council I also had the opportunity to work in a commissioning team as a senior procurement and contracts officer before joining Wakefield Council as a category manager in business services.
I have worked on a variety of projects over several categories and am looking forwarding to using my procurement experience as well as local government knowledge at YPO.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have been a keen runner now for 14 years. I have ran half marathons, 10ks and over 200 Parkruns. Last year I did a 20 mile virtual run as the actual race had been cancelled due to Covid. However I was determined not to let my training go to waste, so I ran from Barnsley to Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield and back to get my 20 miles in. I have two dogs that I do a lot of power walking with. I also love reading and Netflix.
