17 December 2020 By Joe Holland - Assistant Buyer for Energy at YPO

Joe Holland Assistant Category Buyer of Energy at YPO

Joe Holland joined YPO in 2014 and is now the Assistant Buyer for Energy in the procurement services team.

Name: Joe Holland

Position: Assistant Buyer

How long have you been working at YPO: Just over six years.

What do you like most about working at YPO? YPO gives back to the public sector and operates as a not-for-profit organisation, in recent times of austerity YPO has been a real helping hand to customers across the public sector, helping them achieve best value. YPO provides staff excellent opportunities to progress and flexibility to push ourselves, as well as having a nice, friendly atmosphere to work in.

What are your main responsibilities?

My main responsibilities are to assist and help the category buyer and the wider team with administrative and technical support. This includes management of some frameworks, whilst providing support on others as well as providing assistance to customers and liaising with suppliers. Other responsibilities include preparing framework tenders, evaluation of tenders and managing the necessary post award stages. My role is ultimately to help and assist the category buyer and category managers to allow them to focus on strategic challenges that our team faces.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Despite working in the energy team for a few years now, the most challenging part is to keep up with the high pace of innovation and change within the industry. Some big changes are currently happening within the industry such as de-carbonisation, key focus on renewable technologies and changes in legislation. It is important to learn and keep up to date to make sure I can provide customers with the best possible service and ensure our frameworks remain relevant.

Describe your role in three words: Challenging, fun, exciting.

How did you get involved in procurement?

I started my career at YPO as an apprentice working within the educational product section of the business and quickly learned all about procurement from my time as an apprentice. From that, I was able to progress within YPO, specifically with in the energy team and not looked back since.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am a season ticket holder at Leeds United, who will win the Premier League in the next year or two! Before the world of COVID, I liked to go on city breaks with my girlfriend and collect football scarfs from the stadiums we visited on our trips. I also spend a lot of time playing Call of Duty on my PlayStation.
