Design Service Team Manager
I’ve always had a passion for design and started my career working in the building industry designing holiday homes before joining YPO back in 1993. My role has evolved over the years, starting as a CAD designer then moving on to managing projects in the design team. I’m very privileged to work with a fantastic team of people and I love the process of trying to understand the customer’s needs to create inspirational spaces. It’s still a magical feeling seeing the designs come to life and each project is totally unique with their own challenges.
Away from work, my passion is photography - mainly landscape and pet portraits. I can also be seen in the Lake District walking the fells in all seasons come rain, shine or snow!
From the word go I’ve always been hugely interested in the process of creation. This passion to create has always driven me throughout my life, and led me to pursue a career within the design industry and is why I studied Interior Design at Lincoln University.
Since joining YPO in 2012 I’ve been able to explore various different mediums of design to create 2D and 3D spaces where the customer can visualise their ideas from paper to real life. I’m particularly keen on the use of 3D Studio Max as this programme allows me to experiment with 3D model building and rendering. This 3D visualisation creates a mental imagery of how a space can appear – this is the most exciting and rewarding part of my job as a designer! Over the years at YPO my role has transitioned from CAD designer to project manager, which has allowed me to participate in all aspects of the design department.
Aside from work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, socialising, a bit of light exercise and watching Game of Thrones on repeat! Over the last few years I’ve taken on a certain role of rehabilitating birds in need, and take immense pleasure in helping care for these animals and seeing them flourish in their own little lives.
I always knew I wanted to have a career in design, which is why I chose to study Interior Architecture and Design at Teeside University. I started at YPO in 2001, and 17 years later I’m still inspired by new products and solving design problems for the customer!
My role has evolved over the years from CAD estimator to project manager, where I’ve worked on schemes ranging from laboratory fit-outs to new build installations. My role includes site visits, space planning and quoting, and full project management in both the private and public sector.
Outside of work I like to spend time with my family and friends and often act as a chauffeur to my children!
Throughout my school years and University, I have always chosen to qualify in subjects involving design/product development and business studies, and previous job roles have been centred around this.
The reason I get so much fulfilment from my job, is that in project management you are involved in all developmental stages and get to work with most internal departments. From submitting the initial furniture quotation and carrying out a survey to delivering our after-care service in ensuring our clients are 100% happy with the furniture we have supplied and installed.
It is always such a great feeling to have feedback on a job well done. I have learnt so much at YPO and I am looking forward to further developing my project portfolio within the public sector. It feels great to be providing furniture to children in education, people in care and working offices. I am especially interested in the development of our dementia friendly design services for care homes’.
Outside of work, I am a voluntary ‘Independent Visitor’ for Leeds City Council. This is a befriending scheme for young people in care. If you don’t find me here then I usually have my nose in a good book.
Business Development Manager
My role with the Design Team is to help develop the design unit and portfolio of clients whilst supporting the design unit team to bring out the best in us ensuring that we deliver the best service for our clients.
Having always been involved in construction and projects of one form or another I have been able to draw on many skills honed from my years of working with Architects, contractors, local authorities and direct sales. It is a pleasure to be part of such a gifted team and see them grow and develop into being the industry leaders in our sector.
Some personal stuff- when I am not holidaying my free time is spent landscape gardening and sketching but my real passions are martial arts and personal growth.
Assistant CAD Designer
After graduating from Newcastle University in July 2018, I moved quickly into the role of Assistant CAD Designer. My role primarily involves drawing, designing and planning spaces to best suit the needs of a wide range of clients.
I have always been interested in design on any scale which is why I chose to complete my degree in Architecture. Throughout my education my passion has always been finding creative solutions to the tasks I have undertaken which translates directly into my current role. I am excited to see and work on new developments in the way we design and expand the creative service we can offer our clients.
Outside of work I like to take on small craft projects and am currently collaborating with my twin sister on a children’s picture book.
As a CAD Designer, I support the project managers through providing space planning, 2D,3D visualisation and BIM modelling.
I've always had a keen eye for design and have built a strong background in the field, starting my career working as a graphic designer within print and marketing. Since joining the YPO Design Unit as a CAD Designer using my knowledge and experience in other fields , I have been able to develop my craft which has helped the team further its service provision to our clients.
The Design Unit allows me to work on a range of projects, planning and scheduling to the client’s budgetary and design requirements, alongside the project managers.
I have a perpetual thirst for knowledge, and I have just finished my Msc Project Management course which has been enhanced by my work experience and where I see my future.
Outside of work I have interests in film, sport, food and even have my own allotment.
