‘Making even more of the ‘Ancients’ in Key Stage 2 History.

Course Details

This course will build upon last year’s successful workshop, but is also a stand-alone
event if you did not attend the previous one.

As the History Order 2014 states: ‘A high-quality history education will help pupils gain
a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world’.
The latter is the focus for this workshop as these can be the most challenging elements of
history because they are ‘distant in time and place’.

The workshop will provide practical ways of adapting existing provision and prepare
teachers for the revisions to the studies of non-European civilisations.

Children need ‘to do’ the subject and not just ‘learn the facts and dates’. The workshop
will provide ways in which the revisions to the Order can enable a more holistic approach
to the study of the ancient civilisations but also provide approaches that can be used with
the other elements of the History Order at Key Stage 2...
