Getting to Grips with Physical Education in the Primary School

Course Details

This course will take into account changes within the physical education National Curriculum which includes planning for progression from early goals through to the end of key stage attainment targets.

There will also be reference to the physical education and School Sport Premium funding for primary schools and effectiveness of this spending in line with Ofsted. It will also focus on expected outcomes, impact and sustainability of this funding.

The course will address the crucial role that physical education plays right across curriculum and how it impacts on whole school improvement.

Course participants will:

Be able to assess without using levels.

Course Tutor

Eileen has been involved in physical education for many years. She trained as a secondary teacher and started her teaching career in London before moving north where she was an advisory teacher in Huddersfield. She has worked across all phases both as a provider of continuing professional development and a school improvement officer in Kirklees.

She is an Ofsted team inspector and has undertaken over forty inspections. Eileen is a former President and honoured member of the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education and was their General Secretary until the Association dissolved in 2004. She was Policy Adviser in afPE until the end of 2005 when she joined their National College for CPD as a Senior Project Officer. She is a national trainer and delivers numerous Professional Learning opportunities in afPE’s Professional Support Unit
