Grammar: Preparing for Key Stage 1 GPS Tests

Course Details

The new primary curriculum for English focuses heavily on the teaching and learning of
technical English – particularly how to use grammar and punctuation successfully and
build vocabulary and spelling skills.

Guidance will be provided on how to teach grammar in context alongside preparing pupils
for the test. Ultimately with greater understanding of how to build sentences they will
become more successful writers.

A range of engaging and interactive approaches will be shared on the day to help children
develop a clear understanding of how grammar and punctuation is used in great writing.

This course will:

Update your school on the new GPS testing arrangements and coverage.
Provide a Key Stage 1 programme for spelling and grammar that will ensure continuity
and progression.
Support teacher confidence to shape “outstanding” key skill work into independent
work.
Provide a range of strategies and techniques to accelerate understanding and
