This inspiring and practical session will draw upon the latest research and best practice in laying down the foundations for happy and successful readers. As well as sharing creative and meaningful ways of helping children to develop early phonic skills and word recognition, strategies will be explored for supporting all children to develop a love of books.

Kym will demonstrate how the nurseries and schools she has worked with achieve high outcomes in reading by teaching children the way they learn best; through playful teaching and the creative use of high quality texts.

How to lay the foundations for happy and successful readers.

Learning Outcomes:

•Explore the key elements of learning to read and how best to support young children, including an overview of the developmental stages involved.
•Gain ideas for a range of play-based activities designed to enhance children’s understanding of the texts they are engaging with.
•Take away a new repertoire of games and ideas for making phonics teaching more engaging.
