Messy Outdoor Maths for KS1

Course Details

This practical course helps KS1 teachers to make the most of whatever outdoor space they have as a place for learning maths concepts. Every moment is a learning moment, from getting ready to go outside to coming back in. We’ll explore mental maths using sticks, stones and other natural resources, building up from ten-minute sessions to longer lessons outside.

During the day, Juliet will build upon and extend the principles and suggestions from her book ‘Messy Maths’

Please come wearing appropriate clothing and footwear as part of the training will take place outside.

Learning Outcomes:

•Understand how to develop a range of engaging and interesting curriculum-based maths sessions outside that will fit with any approach or scheme including maths mastery.
•Take away lots of practical ideas and suggestions to integrate into your maths programme that will meet the needs of all children.
•See the mathematical potential and possibility of any outdoor space, be it a natural haven or a concrete jungle...
