The national curriculum advises that pupils who have reached the expected standard should not move on to new content but develop their understanding in greater depth.

This course will explore the meaning of greater depth in the context of maths and questions and activities that can help to promote it in the classroom. This will include curriculum design ideas that challenge many established ideas of effective maths teaching which can lead to sustained mastery.

•Explore the four corners of greater depth in maths.
•Look at strategies to improve pupils’ outcomes in making mathematical connections, procedural fluency, problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
