Assistant Category Buyer – Emergency Services and Blue Light

 

Grade 7 - £23,866 to £25,463 per annum | Permanent | Full time 37 hours per week |

An exciting opportunity has arisen at YPO for an Assistant Category Buyer to join the Waste and Facilities Management  team . The role will include full support on a range of key buying related tasks for the Category Buyers and/or Business Manager. 

As an Assistant Category Buyer you will provide full administrative support on a range of key buying related tasks for the Category Buyer.

Key tasks will include:

  • Responsibility for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Category(s), from inputting data to the system(s) to preparing for timely reviews with suppliers to measure performance against contractual standards and performance expectations.

  • Assisting the Category Buyer in preparing for the tender process and evaluations.

  • Assisting the Category Buyer in preparing documentation for Contractual Frameworks

  • Assisting the Category Buyer with the production of marketing material.

  • Preparation of mini tenders/further competitions

  • Ensure  files & records are kept up-to-date, input, check, verify all commercial terms into the relevant system.

  • Assisting the Category Buyer in preparing for commercial negotiations relating to cost pricing, sell pricing and key trading terms;

  • Attending trade fairs and supplier meetings with the Category Buyer

  • Liaising with suppliers to accurately manage tasks including; new supplier detail forms, insurance certificates, packaging specifications and substitute products;

  • Providing a quality and timely response to queries from various functions within the business ensuring excellent customer service on resolution;

  • To provide a mix of tactical buying, process & administrative support to enable the Category Buyer to focus on the strategic challenges by shouldering any tactical/operational tasks.

  • The Contracts Department and Category Buyer to ensure that effective systems are in place to manage, monitor, evaluate and review supplier performance.

  • To lead and undertake project work as required by the Category Buyer.

  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post.


The post holder will be a studying member or a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply or appropriate professional institute or have relevant experience, or be willing to work towards. In addition the candidate will possess good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Previous experience of managing their own workload in a busy environment along with a good knowledge and understanding of Contractual Frameworks is desirable.
