Assistant Category Buyer - Stationery/Arts, Crafts & Creative Textiles

Grade 7 - £24,799 to £26,317 per annum | Full time 37 hours p/w | Up to 12 month Temporary Contract | Closing Date: 23 February 2020

An opportunity has arisen at YPO for an Assistant Category Buyer to join the Education, Learning and Office Supplies team.  This opportunity is made all the more exciting by the fact that the candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in two category areas – Stationery & Arts, Crafts & Creative Textiles.

As an Assistant Category Buyer you will provide full administrative support on a range of key buying related tasks for the Category Buyer.    

Key tasks will include:

  • Responsibility for the management of the day-to-day operations of the categories, from inputting data to the system to preparing for timely reviews with suppliers to measure performance against contractual standards and performance expectations.

  • Assisting the Category Buyers in preparing for the tender process and evaluations.

  • Assisting the Category Buyers with catalogue production.

  • Preparation of quotes and mini tenders

  • Ensure orders are accurately input and verified on a daily basis, files & records are kept up-to-date, input, check, verify all commercial terms into the relevant system.

  • Assisting the Category Buyers in preparing for commercial negotiations relating to cost pricing, sell pricing and key trading terms;

  • Attending trade fairs and supplier meetings with the Category Buyers

  • Liaising with suppliers to accurately manage tasks including; new product details forms, test certificates, packaging specifications and substitute products;

  • Providing a quality and timely response to queries from various functions within the business ensuring excellent customer service on resolution;

  • Work with the Supply Chain Operations team and Category Buyers to ensure that effective systems are in place to manage, monitor, evaluate and review supplier performance.  

The post holder will be a studying member or a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply or appropriate professional institute or have relevant experience, or be willing to work towards. In addition the candidate will possess good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Previous experience of managing their own workload in a busy environment is desirable.
